The resident’s presence reduced to an interrupted habit: whoever lives there rides a bike, and the snowstorm makes that impossible. The work’s second strength is an accident that was embraced. The shutter stayed open longer than the artist intended, and instead of freezing the snow into dots, it streaked it across the entire façade; she recognized that the image was better than she had intended. The mistake produced the one thing a correct exposure could not have given—the physical sensation of being inside the snowstorm.

“No biking today. With all this snow, there’s no way to go by bike. And the poor bike, freezing to death all by itself outside on the terrace.”
