The earliest dated work in the series, and the one that gives it depth in the most literal sense. Three modes of togetherness at three distances: two boys in physical contact, running with a soapbox cart in full silhouette; a third boy on a bicycle, in full light, separated from them by a wall; and two adult figures seated in the distance. The pair in physical contact provides the counterpoint that keeps the series from becoming a thesis on urban detachment — without an image of genuine togetherness, all the others would merely illustrate an argument.
