The most densely populated work in the series, and the one in which the least can be seen of anyone. At least five people share the interior of a bus, only inches apart, yet not a single face is visible: two have their backs to the camera, their hats concealing what little might otherwise be seen, while the third, the only one facing forward, has raised a hand to their face. At least four barriers stand between the camera and this person. Seven shots were taken, and the one selected is the only one in which the person covers their face — a gesture that transforms a record of passengers into an image about the right not to be seen.

“That was the only one where they had their hand in front of their face.”
