The opening work, and the one that presents the phenomenon in its purest form: a sky split in two, with the cloud cover already blue above and a band of blazing sunlight below. What keeps it from becoming a postcard is the screen of branches left in the foreground, forcing the eye to reach the light through something. On revisiting the image, the artist discovered that the cloud line follows the curve of a branch at the brightest point in the frame.
“It was only afterward that I noticed the cloud line coincides with a branch. And it really does.”
